The bronze marker of late Army Sgt. George Roger Simmons is looking better than it has in a long time.
David Tygart made sure of that last week, during one of his visits to Memorial Park Cemetery.
Seeing the tombstone of the World War II veteran — which he cleaned with a brush and special solution — made Tygart think of his own father’s service.
“My dad served 18 years in the Navy,” he said proudly. “We moved around a lot.”
“I wish I could serve my country,” he added.
